MARUNAKA-NAKAMURA(located at IZUMI): Popping plane is one of the techniques used in ceramics. When a “plane,” a tool shaped like a bent spatula, is applied to a pottery being rotated on a potter’s wheel, the plane bounces on the surface of the clay and engraves a pattern. By applying a glaze that highlights the black clay, the pattern is further accentuated.
